Chris Smalling will be the third Manchester United player to move to the Serie A this season.

Chris Smalling is set to join Serie A side Roma on loan from Manchester United. The Italian club has agreed to pay £2.7 million to take the defender on a season-long loan without an option to buy, the Guardian reported.

The England international is yet to make an appearance this season and has fallen behind the 21-year-old Axel Tuanzebe in the pecking order. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly content with the move since the side has an excess of central defenders after Harry Maguire's arrival.

Smalling will be the third United player to move to the Serie A this season. Romelu Lukaku left United in a £74 million deal to play under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. Alexis Sanchez is set to complete a loan move to the same club.
