American golfer Bubba Watson appeared at the 2010, 2012 and 2014 Ryder Cups, but his record at the event is underwhelming, with 5.5 points taken from a possible 14.

Bubba Watson has been named the United States' fifth vice-captain for the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

The World No. 7 missed out on selection as a player for the competition, with Ryan Moore given the nod by Davis Love III when he made his final captain's pick on Monday.

But the two-time Masters winner's disappointment will have been at least partly assuaged by his inclusion in Love's group of assistants.

Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods are the other vice-captains for the host.
