India 'A' women's hockey team celebrates after defeating France 'A' 2-0.

The India 'A' women’s hockey team defeated France 'A’ 2-0 in the third match to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series at the Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium in Lucknow Tuesday.

Local girl Mumtaz Khan and Sharmila Devi scored for the home team in a match that saw the visitor dominate in the opening minutes. A strong Indian defense held fort. After going through two goal-less quarters, India finally managed to break the deadlock in the 42nd minute through young striker Mumtaz.

The French had several chances in the match, but could not get past Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam. Some good saves from the Indian 'keeper helped the host take its lead into the last quarter.

An eventful last quarter saw both teams vie for the next goal of the match. India ‘A’ was successful in its pursuit as Sharmila Devi scored in the last minute to help her team come out winner. The fourth and last match of the series will be played on Wednesday.
