Hockey World Cup 2018: Germany tops Pool D, Netherlands routs Pakistan

Germany overcame Malaysia 5-3 to book a quarterfinal spot, while Netherlands scored five past Pakistan in the final Pool D encounters of the Hockey World Cup 2018 at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

Netherlands needed a win to finish second in Pool D and started brightly with Thierry Brinkman's goal in the 7th minute. However, Pakistan equalised after winning four penalty corners in a row through Umar Bhutta in the 9th minute. (PTI)

After initially struggling, Netherlands grew into the game and Bob de Voogd made it 3-1 with the sliding finish from a Jeroen Hertzberger pass. Jorrit Croon and Mink van der Weerden scored in the final quarter to round off a 5-1 victory. The Oranje will now face Canada in the crossover, while Pakistan will clash with Belgium.
