JK Tyre Orange 4x4 Fury: Maiden title for Team MOCA

What started as fun for MOCA about four years ago at the same venue ended up with the team conquering the toughest off-roading event in the country.

Manabhum Off-Roaders Club of Arunachal (Team MOCA) stood united and strong when it mattered the most to emerge as champion of the JK Tyre Orange 4x4 Fury on Tuesday.

The MOCA men, Aditya Mei (co-driver Chow Sujeewan Choutang) and Chow Ujjal Namshum (co-driver Chow Ingieng Mein), had only a five-point edge over defending champion Gerrari Off-Roaders from Chandigarh going into the final two stages of the day.

They knew it was now or never and wanted to dish out something special for the home crowd. And, they came up with a stunning show in the opening stage (Camp the River) to collect full 100 points.

The Gerrari men, Gurmeet Singh (co-driver Gurpratap Sandhu) and Kabir Waraich (Yuvraj Singh Tiwana) put their heart and soul but ended up with 30 penalty points to finish second.

It hurt them much and in return made things rather easy for the local stars entering the final stretch (Dambuk River), where they played it safe and steady to clinch their maiden title.

Interestingly, what started as fun for MOCA about four years ago at the same venue ended up with the team conquering the toughest off-roading event in the country.

“We are all cousin brothers and we enjoy a great understanding with each other. Also, we had the advantage here as tackling these off-roading events come naturally to us,” said Aditya Mei.

Chow Namshum, the other driver in the team, said they learnt a lot from Gerrari, who had tested international waters. “They are tough guys with loads of experience and we are thrilled to have beaten them today.”

The winner went home richer by Rs. 2.5 lakh and the next two finishers were awarded 1.5 and one lakh respectively.
