  • PV Sindhu beats Akane Yamaguchi 2-0 (21-13, 22-20) to enter the semifinals. Sindhu stormed into the semifinals of the women's singles event after defeating Japan's number four seed Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals. Sindhu defeated Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20. The quarterfinal clash between Sindhu and Yamaguchi lasted for 56 minutes.

  • Game 2: 21-20 Yamaguchi snatches the lead from Sindhu and the Indian is trailimg by just a point. This is such a decisive point for the Indian and a close net serve helps her level the game. Yamaguchi still manages at 19-18 and then two-game points. Sindhu with a smash makes it 19-20 and then an excellent smash down the line helps Siindhu makes it 20-20. Sindhu saves two game points and gets the game to deuce. After surviving to game points, Sindhu made her way to a match point at 21-20. Match Sindhu and the Indian enters the semifinal once again! What a game!

  • Game 2: 15-14: Both players on their knees and Yamaguchi proves a point as she fights hard and draws level with Sindhu. What a rally!

  • Game 2: 14-8 - Sindhu is now favourite to win the content and she is en route to her quarterfinal win against Yamaguchi and is favourite to enter the semifinal. 

  • Game 2: 10-5 - Sindhu continues to maintain lead and she has puched Yamaguchi into a corner but the errors on the backline can cost Sindhu some damage.

  • Game 2: 5-3 - Yamaguchi was up for the challenge as she drew 3-3 but the service over saw Sindhu taking a one-point lead but Yamaguchi called for a challenge after the line judge called it out and that gave Sindhu a two-point lead at 5-3.
  • Game 1: 21-13: The side ways drift did cost Sindhu a point and a misjudgement a challenge and immediately another challenge for a cross-court shot but this time, the Indian was spot on and kept her one challenge alive. A clinical finish earned seven game points for Sindhu and the reigning World Champion pocketed the game easily by 21-13 in just 23 minutes.  
  • Game 1: 18-11: A full length dive by Yamaguchi showed the Japanese is not going to be tamed easily the Rio silver medallist but credit to Sindhu for stretching her opponent and gaining a seven-point lead at 18-11.
  • Game 1: 14-10 - Sindhu continued to dominate and having realised that she has taken the lead, further upped the ante but a poor timing saw her concede a point. The two players were involved in long rallies that saw fantastic net-shots, lifts and defensive tactics with the Indian controlling the match with a four-point lead at 14-10.
  • Game 1 Break 11-7: The attack came from Sindhu as she raced to a three-point lead at 10-7 and a quality net shot took her to a four-point advantage in the opening game.
  • Game 1: Yamaguchi used her service to good effect and didn't allow Sindhu to take advantage of her height as Sindhu erred on an occasion while trying to attack. But Sindhu, indulging the Japanese in long rallies levelled at 6-6 and took the lead for the first time in the match at 7-6. Yamaguchi challenged but was unsuccessful. 
  • Game 1: Yamaguchi to serve. Cautious start from both the players and it was Yamaguchi who took the first point but Sindhu was quick to draw level and then with a drop shot, Yamaguchi took a two-point lead at 5-3.
