Total quota: 350, 175 men and 175 women; maximum of 15 athletes per NOC — 8 men and 7 women, or one boat per event in each gender
- 2018 Sailing World Championships — Has 101 quota places. Highest placed NOCs in each sailing event will qualify as per the quotas.
- Regional Games — Has 6 quota places. The highest placed NOCs, not already qualified at the 2018 Sailing World Championships, in each of the regional games will get the quota places.
- 2019 World Championships — Has 61 quota places. Highest placed NOCs, not already qualified at the 2018 Sailing World Championships or their regional games, will get the quotas.
2019 / 2020 Continental Qualification Events — Has 68 quota places. The highest placed NOCs from each continent not already qualified at the 2018 Sailing World Championships, regional games or the 2019 World Championships, will get the quota places.
India Watch: Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics in April. She will compete in the Laser Radial class. Three others - Vishnu Saravanan (Laser Standard), KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar (49er) also qualified soon after. India will be competing in more than one sailing event for the first time in Tokyo Olympics. |
