Reigning Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah successfully defended her women's 100m title and also set a new Olympic record of 10.61s. Her compatriots, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Shericka Jackson, finished second and third respectively to make it an all-Jamaican podium.

Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta beat world number one Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 to win a memorable bronze medal in the men' singles tennis.
