Punishing innocent ‘unjust’, says head of Russia’s Olympic Committee

Alexander Zhukov on Tuesday accused the International Olympic Committee of punishing clean athletes after banning Russia from the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The head of Russia's Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov, on Tuesday accused the International Olympic Council (IOC) of punishing clean athletes after banning Russia from the 2018 Winter Olympics.

"Punishing the innocent is unjust and immoral. This completely contradicts the basic Olympic principles," he was quoted as telling the International Olympic Committee by the R-Sport news agency in Lausanne. "Everyone should answer for his sins."

The IOC earlier banned Russia from the 2018 Games over state-sponsored doping, but said some Russian athletes will be allowed to compete under strict conditions.
