Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim completed his fifth Test century. His elegant 127 helped the Tigers to stretch their total to 388 in the first innings.
Taskin Ahmed gave India two early jitters in the second innings, dismissing K. L. Rahul and Murali Vijay cheaply.
Cheteshwar Pujara played an unbeaten 54-run knock. He forged a 67-run partnership with captain Kohli for the third wicket, which helped India in getting some quick runs and posting a massive target of 459 for Bangladesh.
Just what the captain ordered. Ravichandran Ashwin struck two crucial blows for India, getting Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque, in the Bangladesh second innings.
Soumya Sarkar got going, but, when on 42, he tried a stroke too many and was caught by Ajinkya Rahane off Ravindra Jadeja. Bangladesh requires another 356 runs with seven wickets remaining for a victory on the last day.
