India strikes three gold in World University Championship
Gauri Sheoran wins gold for India, which finished third in the medals table.

Gauri Sheoran emerged the lone individual gold medallist for India which finished third in the medals table with three gold, two silver and three bronze in the World University shooting championship which concluded in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Italy topped the medals tally from among 24 teams with five gold, five silver and a bronze, while Korea was second with four gold, a silver and five bronze.
After just about qualifying for the final with a modest score of 371, Gauri was brilliant in the climax winding up with a perfect five, as she beat Wang Xiaoyu of China 37-33, for the gold.

Shreya Gawande also made the final but settled for the fifth place.
The third member Abidnya Patil shot 550, but the Indian trio won the team bronze.
There was more success for Indian women in air rifle, as the team won the gold apart from the silver and bronze medals by Meghana Sajjanar and Elavenil Valarivan.
In fact, Elavenil topped the qualification with a perfect 400, and the third member Trisha Mukherjee shot 395, as India beat Russia by five points for the gold.
India won its third gold in men’s air pistol, as the trio of Anmol Jain, Achal Pratap Singh Grewal and Nishant Sindhu helped the team beat Russia by nine points for the gold.
Anam Basit and Soumya Gupta made the women’s trap final by settled for the fifth and sixth places. There was no bronze medal for India behind Italy and Russia as there were only three teams in competition.
In men’s free pistol, Anmol Jain, Achal Pratap Singh Grewal and Karnav Bishoi won the team bronze for India 20 points behind Russia.
Tejas Krishna Prasad, Akhil Sheoran and Arjun Babuta shot identical scores of 595 to help India to the team bronze in men’s air rifle, one point behind Italy.
In men’s rifle 3-position, Akhil Sheoran who had won the World Cup gold recently in Guadalajara, shot below par for a total fo 1122 that placed him 33rd.
