Tamang, Koshy shoots gold

Elizabeth Susan Koshy clinched the women’s rifle 3-position gold 6.1 points ahead of qualification topper and former World Champion Tejaswini Sawant in the 11th Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Masters shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range in Tughlakabad.

Pemba Tamang outclassed junior gold medallist Anhad Jawanda by one point for the gold.

 

Elizabeth Susan Koshy clinched the women’s rifle 3-position gold 6.1 points ahead of qualification topper and former World Champion Tejaswini Sawant in the 11th Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Masters shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range in Tughlakabad.

Anjum Moudgil who had a good start in the final had to eventually settle for the bronze medal. She did that ahead of a string of quality shooters like Rajkumari Rathore, Gaayathri Nithyanandam, Aditi Singh, Jayashree Das and the much decorated Anjali Bhagwat, who was third in qualification with 576.

Tejaswini had topped qualification with 580, while Elizabeth had a 575. Gaayathri was second with 577. The qualification scores count towards national selection and thus the shooters had a lot to gain by being at their best in that stage.

In men’s centre fire pistol, Pemba Tamang outclassed junior gold medallist Anhad Jawanda by one point for the gold, as the curtains came down on the champonship. Samaresh Jung took the bronze ahead of Omkar Singh despite being tied on the same score at 576. He was followed by Olympian Gurpreet Singh on 575.
