World TT: Indian women to meet Puerto Rico in main draw

The Indian women will be running into Puerto Rica for the second time in the championships after the latter accounted for England 3-2 in a tough first round-match.

The Indian women, after having topped the group in the qualifiers, received a first-round bye in the main draw where they clash with Puerto Rico, at the 2016 table tennis World Championships here today. The men’s team will start against Hungary.

Incidentally, India had finished second behind Nigeria in Group F qualifiers yesterday after blanking out Slovak Republic 3-0 in the Second Division.

The Indian women will be running into Puerto Rica for the second time in the championships after the latter accounted for England 3-2 in a tough first round-match today. The Indians had beaten the North American team 3-1 in the second round of their Group G match on the second day of the championships in which Mouma Das lost her opening match to Adriana Diaz 1-3. If they beat Puerto Rico tomorrow morning, they will progress to the next round of the main draw where they will play for positions 25-28 against the winners of Serbia-Vietnam match later in the evening.

As for the men’s team, their immediate task would be to beat Hungary in positions 25-36 tonight and expect to clash with Nigeria, who thrashed India 3-0 in their Group F clash in the third round on Tuesday.
