French Open champion Garbine Muguruza looking forward to the 2017 season

Garbine Muguruza wants to add consistency to her game in 2017 after claiming her maiden grand slam title this year.

The Spaniard shocked Serena Williams in the final of the French Open in June to join the list of grand slam winners, Muguruza prevailing 7-5 6-4 at Roland Garros. She was unable to maintain her form throughout the year, though, and failed to get past the second round at Wimbledon and the US Open.

And improving her performances across the whole of 2017 is her main priority as the world number seven looks to become a regular contender at major WTA events. "[My objective after winning Roland Garros] is to never believe that at 25 years old you will have achieved everything that you want, because in the end no player reaches their highest level at 22," she is quoted as saying by the WTA website.

"I'll take my time with everything. And if it doesn't come next year, well, so it goes. That's how I try to reassure myself."
