Novak Djokovic has confirmed he remains set to participate in the Australian Open, but the 12-time Grand Slam champion is unsure how his elbow will hold up in Melbourne.

The former World No. 1 eased to a 6-1 6-4 victory over an unwell Dominic Thiem in his first match for six months at the Kooyong Classic on Wednesday.

Djokovic lost to Lleyton Hewitt in the Tie Break Tens exhibition event on Margaret Court Arena later in the day.

The Serb acknowledged that he is waiting to discover if he will be able to play to the best of his ability at Melbourne Park.

"For now, I'm in the tournament," said Djokovic, who cut short his 2017 after retiring from Wimbledon due to a troublesome right elbow.

"There was a doubt, especially after I pulled out of the first week of the year. I don't say I'm at 100 per cent, I can only say that when I get the feel of a tournament.

"Ideally I would have had another tournament before the start of the Open, but it was not meant to be."

The Australian Open gets under way on Monday.
