ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament: Prerna, Zeel in second round

Prerna was joined in the second round by compatriot, the second seeded Zeel Desai.

Four time National champion Prerna Bhambri beats Venia Yeung of Hong Kong 6-0, 7-5 in the first round of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Hong Kong on Monday.

Prerna was joined in the second round by compatriot, the second seeded Zeel Desai. However, the former Asian junior champion Mihika Yadav lost the third set 7-6(6) against Akari Inoue of Japan.

In the $25,000 ITF women’s event in Thailand, Ankita Raina in partnership with Su Jeong Jang of Korea survived a match point while perspiring  to a 15-13 victory in the super tie-break against compatriot Pranjala Yadlapalli and her Australian partner Kaylah Mcphee.

Ankita and partner converted their eighth matchpoint after having led 9-5 at one stage.

Interestingly, second seed Ankita and Pranjala are scheduled to meet in the first round of singles as well.
