Saketh Myneni had fought off stiff challenges from Jason Jung and Egor Gerasimov in the first and second round of the qualifiers.

Saketh Myneni has withdrawn from the Maharashtra Open in Pune on Tuesday with an injury to his left foot. The news was announced minutes before his first-round match against Benoit Paire was to begin.

After qualifying for the main draw, Saketh – who fought off stiff challenges from Jason Jung and Egor Gerasimov in the first and second round of the qualifiers – had spoken of making changes to his racquets, nutrition and recovery process to be more physically aggressive going into the new season.

He also spoke positively about his fitness, saying, "After playing for two and a half hours, I did not cramp and I will take that from this match." That he had to withdraw two days later with an injury is a bit of an anti-climax.

Saketh has been replaced by Thiago Monteiro, the lucky loser in the qualifiers, and he will take on Paire for a place in the round-of-16.
