At 37, Venus Williams, after playing some exquisite tennis throughout the tournament, would've liked to hold the winner's trophy.

At 37, Venus Williams, in this year's Wimbledon, was seen rejuvenated and reinvented herself, brushing aside opponents much younger than her. A sixth title at the SW19, hence, had been imminent. But, on a day it mattered the most, Venus made errors too many and conceded the match to the mighty Garbine Muguruza, who cliched her maiden Wimbledon title with a 7-5, 6-0 win.

Excerpts of her post-match media interaction:

On not converting set points in the first set: Yeah, definitely would have loved to have converted some of those points. But she competed really well. So credit to her. She just dug in there and managed to play better.

On this year's Wimbledon: Every tournament's different. This is most certainly a very different tournament. It took a lot of effort and what have you to get right here today. So this is where I want to be every single major.

On US Open: Yeah, definitely that I'm in good form. I've been in a position a lot of times this year to contend for big titles. That's the kind of position I want to keep putting myself in. It's just about getting over the line. I believe I can do that.

On Roger Federer: I've always been a Federer fan. I think if you're not, it's kind of uncool. So wish him the best of luck.

On becoming an aunt: Very much so (looking forward to). Very much so. Tremendously.
