Yuki Bhambri returned to the circuit with a good fighting game, but was beaten by Salvatore Caruso of Italy 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-1 in the first round of the ATP tennis tournament in Antwerp, Belgium, on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Yuki, who has played only two matches, one each at Wimbledon and US Open, after retiring midway through the match against Milos Raonic at the Queen’s Club in June, lost steam in the decider.

In the doubles pre-quarterfinals, Divij Sharan, seeded fourth with Artem Sitak of New Zealand, beat Leander Paes and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela 7-5, 6-4.
