Sania Mirza's 2017 started with a victory when she and her partner, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, defeated Alizé Cornet and Elise Mertens in the first round of the Brisbane International tournament on Tuesday.
Bethanie and Sania defeated Alizé and Elise 6-1, 6-1 within 43 minutes.
The duo will next face Irina-Camelia Begu and Daria Kasatkina. Begu and Daria defeated Kateryna Bondarenko and Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 6-0.
