Highs

December 2: Tyson Fury came out of depression and returned to the boxing ring to take on Deontay Wilder. The two put up an enthralling fight and Wilder went on to retain his WBC Heavyweight title after a split-decision draw.

December 16: P. V. Sindhu defeated defending champion Nozomi Okuhara to clinch the BWF World Tour Finals.

December 16: Belgium beat three-time champion Netherlands in a tense shoot-out to claim its maiden Hockey World Cup title.

December 23: Real Madrid defeated Al Ain 4-0 to retain its FIFA Club World Cup and become the first team to win the tournament for three consecutive years.

December 30: India beat Australia by 137 runs in the third Test at MCG to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-test series.

Lows

December 13: Host nation India exited the Hockey World Cup after going down 1-2 to Netherlands in the quarterfinal stage.

December 18: Jose Mourinho parted ways with Manchester United after spending two and a half years at the club.

December 31: Top-ranked Indian tennis player Prajnesh  Gunneswaran was ousted from the first round of the Maharashtra Open as he lost 5-7, 3-6 to Michael Mmoh.
