Sportstar began as a Print Only multi-sport weekly on July 15, 1978. It is a cherished offering from The Hindu group, an institution with an innate interest in sport and which has been backing all athletic activity with whole-hearted zeal for more than a century through the sports pages of its flagship, The Hindu newspaper.
Indeed, The Hindu's first foray into sports magazines had been through Sport and Pastime, which also featured a bit of cinema and light reading in the form of gripping short stories. Begun in 1947, this magazine ran for 21 years.
In 2018 the periodicity of Sportstar was made fortnightly with a lot of in-depth articles coming into the mix. Our readers have been the fount of inspiration in our attempts at exploring new angles in sports journalism.
Sensing the increasing appetite for sports news consumption in digital space, the Sportstar website was launched a little over three years ago, offering real-time sports content to the readers, using new-age story-telling methods through video and audio narrations.
The website also carries regular previews, reviews, interviews, features, analysis, statistical highlights and photo essays.
