Atanu finishes fourth in World Cup qualifying

Atanu Das started off with 339 points out of a possible 360 for his first 36 arrows before improving to 342 to total 681 in the qualifying round.

Indian youngster Atanu Das finished fourth in the men’s recurve qualification to get a bye into the last-32 of the first stage of Archery World Cup here today.

The 24-year-old started off with 339 points out of a possible 360 for his first 36 arrows before improving to 342 to total 681.

Jayanta Talukdar was the next best among Indians finishing 17th with a score of 671 as India got a fourth place in team ranking with 2008 points.

Korean trio of Ku Bonchan, Kim Woojin and Lee Seungyun finshed top three. The cut to make the top 104, who advance to the elimination phase of the last World Cup stage of the year, was applied at 646 points —— 16 higher than the minimum score required to shoot at the Olympics.

Eight archers finished on 646 as they had to shoot-off for five available places. Qualification round of recurve women and compound men and women’s sections will be held tomorrow.
