Golfing: Men’s team optimistic
The young Indian men led by 18-year-old Rayhan Thomas are going to the Asian Games with their share of optimism. But the women’s team is not expected to be among the medal contenders.

Considering the challenges in amateur golf in the continent, the Indian men’s team is going to the Asian Games with its share of optimism. The team is young and led by 18-year-old Rayhan Thomas, who’s ranked among the top 25 amateurs in the world and second among Asian amateurs. Kshitij Kaul could be a surprise should he reproduce the showing that earned him the best amateur’s title at the Hero Indian Open on the testing DLF Golf and Country Club course in Gurugram in March.
Diksha Dagar, whose four-under over three rounds (the lowest ever for an Indian) helped India finish sixth in the prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup in Thailand in May, carries India’s hopes among the women.
However as a team, the country is not expected to be among the medal contenders. The Indian men are going to the Asian Games with their share of optimism. But the women’s team is not expected to be among the medal contenders.
