SC dismisses Prachi and Chhavi’s petition against AFI

According to the AFI, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition as it felt that interference at this late stage would disturb the team combination for the Asiad.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by the UP quartermilers Prachi Choudhary and Chhavi Sharawat against the Athletics Federation of India as they were not included in the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team for this month’s Asian Games in Jakarta.

According to the AFI, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition as it felt that interference at this late stage would disturb the team combination for the Asiad.

Prachi and Chhavi had finished third and fourth in the Inter-State Nationals in Guwahati, the main event to select the Asiad team, in June. Many runners who had finished behind the UP athletes were selected to the team.

The AFI had told the court that it picked only national campers for relay events and that its policy was announced in October 2017.

It also said that it was important for the relay team to have good combination and a swift baton exchange to gain advantage over opponents.
