K. Ganapathi was the best Indian in the men’s 20km event at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships, finishing 22nd with a personal best 1:21.41s in Rome on Saturday night (IST).

Asian champion Gurmeet Singh finished 27th in 1:22.04 while Manish Singh was 31st in 1:22.41 and Sandeep Kumar clocked 1:23.51 while taking the 42nd spot. Devender Singh, the fastest Indian this year, was disqualified.

India finished seventh in the team championship with 80 points with China topping the group with 16 points (the team with the least number of points wins) with Canada and Ecuador finishing second and third.

China also won the gold and silver in the individual event, through Zhen Wang (1:19.22s) and Zelin Cai (1:19.34) with Spaniard Alvaro Martin (1:19.36) taking the bronze.
