A couple of years ago, she had said that going past 19m was no big deal. Shot putter Manpreet Kaur is now very close to that goal, with her stunning season-opener of 18.86m at the Asian Grand Prix in China on Monday.

The Olympian also took a sensational move in the world list, moving to the top of the pack. Behind her, with 18.54m, in the IAAF list is Michelle Carter, the American who won her country’s first-ever Olympic gold in the shot put in Rio last year.

Manpreet, who was one of the early birds to qualify for Rio, however had a disappointing Olympics, finishing 13th in her qualifying group with 17.06m.

The Patiala-based 26-year-old has surprised many with some big throws, one just hopes she stays consistent and pulls off a big one at the coming Asians and the Worlds.
