Ramkumar continues good run in Winnetka Challenger

The 22-year-old Ramkumar, ranked a career-best 184, will play Dominik Koepfer of Germany in the quarterfinals.

Fifth seed Ramkumar Ramanathan continued with his good run and made the quarterfinals of the $75,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Winnetka with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over local wild card JC Aragone.

The 22-year-old Ramkumar, ranked a career-best 184, will play Dominik Koepfer of Germany in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, however, Ramkumar in partnership with compatriot Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan was beaten 7-6(3), 6-2 by Koepfer and Alex Lawson in the pre-quarterfinals.

There was impressive success for another Indian pair in Sweden, as Sriram Balaji and Vijay Sundar Prashanth beat the top seeds Johan Brunstrom and Andreas Siljestrom of Sweden in straight sets to make the semifinals.

In China, Karman Kaur Thandi cruised into the women’s quarterfinals of the $25,000 event in Naiman, while Karunuday Singh made the men’s doubles final in Shenzhen with Francis Casey Alcanntara of Philippines. Vishnu Vardhan was scheduled to play the singles quarterfinals on Friday.

Qualifer Kanika Vaidya joined doubles partner Rutuja Bhosale and Pranjala Yadlapalli in the pre-quarterfinals of singles in the ITF women’s event in Egypt, whereas Dhruthi lost the doubles semifinals in partnership with Chieh-Yu Hsu of Chinese Taipei in Thailand.
