Denmark Open: Jayaram, Prannoy move into second round

Indian shuttler Ajay Jayaram won his first round match against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana but S. Praneeth failed to move to the second round in the Denmark Open Superseries on Wednesday.

Indian shuttler Ajay Jayaram won his first round match against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana but S. Praneeth failed to move to the second round as he lost against to another Thai player, Tanongsak Saensomboo, in the Denmark Open Superseries on Wednesday.

Praneeth was the first shuttler from India to play on the first day of the main draw. He lost the first game 17-21, but fought back to reclaim the second game 21-19. However, Saensomboonsuk outplayed the Indian in the third game, beating Praneeth 21-15.

Jayaram, who lost in the final of Dutch Open two days back, showed his prowess, beating Ponsana in straight games - 21-15, 21-16.

H. S. Prannoy also moved into the second round after defeating Wei Feng Chong of Thailand. Prannoy won the first game 21-13, but the Thai came back strong to take the second game 21-19. After a close battle in the third round, Prannoy prevailed and won the decisive game 22-20.

Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reedy lost their men's doubles match against Denmark's Kim Astrup and Anders Ska Rasmussen in straight games. They lost the first game 10-21 and even though they fought hard, but lost the second game 19-21.
