Hong Kong Open SS: Sindhu into quarters; Saina, Prannoy bow out

India's P. V. Sindhu advanced into the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open Superseries after she defeated Japan's Aya Ohori 21-14, 21-17 in the second round.

Sindhu, seeded second, will meet China Open champion Akane Yamaguchi in the last-eight.

The 22-year-old Hyderabadi shuttler eased past Yuet Yee of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-10 in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.

It was curtains for Saina Nehwal and H. S. Prannoy, both of whom bowed out of the tourney. Prannoy went down fighting to Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai 21-11, 10-21, 15-21 in a 54-minute battle, while Saina lost to Chen Yufei  21-18, 19-21, 21-10.

Parupalli Kashyap and Sourabh Verma had lost in the opening round on Wednesday.
