Kashyap cruises into second round of German Open

Sixth seed Srikanth, another Indian in the fray, has a shaky start in his opening encounter against Japan's Ueda.

P Kashyap had an easy game against his Ukrainian opponent Artem Pochtarev in the opener.

Indian ace shuttler Parupalli Kashyap produced a rich vein of form as he thrashed Artem Pochtarev of Ukraine in the men’s singles event to advance to the second round of the German Grand Prix Gold.

The 29-year-old swept aside his Ukrainian opponent 21-9, 21-9 in the one-sided opening contest that lasted for just 24 minutes.

With the win, Kashyap has set up a second round clash with Ireland’s Joshua Magee.

Meanwhile, sixth seed Kidambi Srikanth recovered from a shaky start to brush aside Japan’s Takuma Ueda 12-21, 21-18, 21-11 to progress to the next round.
