Lagos International: Rahul Yadav shines with singles title

C. Rahul Yadav of India won the men’s singles title and his teammates Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy clinched the men’s doubles title in the Lagos International Challenge on Saturday night.

The men’s singles final was an all-Indian affair in which fourth-seeded Rahul emerged a 21-15, 21-13 winner over compatriot and seventh-seeded Karan Rajan Rajarajan.

Earlier in the semifinal, Rahul shocked top-seed and World No. 55 Misha Zilberman 21-13, 22-24, 21-14 in the semi-final..

It may be mentioned here that Rahul from Gopi Chand Academy had recently won the bronze medal in the Russain Open Grand Prix also.

In the doubles final, top-seeded Manu and Sumeeth, both trainees at the Pullela Gopi Chand Academy, defeated Indian local pair of Godwin Olofua and Anouluwapo Juwon Opeyori, 21-13, 21-15.

In the women’s singles final, fourth-seeded Mugdha Agrey of India lost to Sri Lankan Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa 13-21, 19-21.

Doubles: Manu Attri & B. Sumeeth Reddy bt Godwin Olofua & Anouluwapo Juwon Opeyori 21-13, 21-15.

Women: Singles: Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa bt Mughda Agrey 21-13, 21-19.
