Sindhu survives Jindapol scare to make All England Championship quarters

P. V. Sindhu fought off a stiff challenge from Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol to advance to the quarterfinal of the All England Championship with a 21-13, 13-21, 21-18 win on Thursday.

The fourth-seeded Sindhu took the first game with ease in 19 minutes, but Jindapol staged a remarkable comeback to take the second game. The Thai held a four-point lead at 17-13 and there was no stopping her from there as she went on to clinch the next four points to take the tie to a deciding third set.

Sindhu got off to a fine start in the third game and was up 8-4, but Jindapol brought her A game to the court and leveled the scores a 9 each. She then soared to a 15-12 lead and looked poised to take the match.

However, Sindhu's experience proved to be the difference as she kept her calm and held onto her strokes, patiently waiting for her opponent to commit unforced errors. She fought her way back from 17-18 to snatch the next four points and seal her quarterfinal berth.

Sindhu now faces Nozomi Okuhara in the quarters.
