India qualifies for Asia Cup with win over Nepal

India won its fifth consecutive South Asian Basketball Association title after beating Nepal 90-44 here on Tuesday. With this win, India ensured that it remained unbeaten, winning all four of its matches.

India won its fifth consecutive South Asian Basketball Association title after beating Nepal 90-44 here on Tuesday. With this win, India ensured that it remained unbeaten, winning all four of its matches.

India has now qualified for the FIBA Asia Cup to be held in Lebanon from August 8 to 20. It has also ensured qualification for its top club team in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup -- a tournament for premier club teams of Asian countries.

Against Nepal, India’s veteran shooting guard Vishesh Bhriguvanshi tallied 22 points while B.K. Anil Kumar chipped in with 16 off the bench.

The result: India 90 (Vishesh Bhriguvanshi 22, B.K. Anil Kumar 16) bt Nepal 44 (Ashim Shrestha 9).
