ONGC (Dehradun) and IOB (Chennai) underscored their status as favourites with facile victories in the men’s section of the Federation Cup basketball tournament.

ONGC (Dehradun) and IOB (Chennai) underscored their status as favourites with facile victories in the men’s section of the Federation Cup basketball tournament here on Friday.

ONGC (Dehradun) relied on Trideep Rai (20 points) and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (17 points) to outclass Vijaya Bank (Bengaluru) 64-32. Trideep was unstoppable beyond the three-point line as he sank all five of his attempts, while the wily Bhriguvanshi found his way to the rim with ease.

The defending champion is now unbeaten after two matches. IOB (Chennai), meanwhile, registered a third straight win, taking out Army Red 71-47. Shooting guard Pratham Singh (22 points, 10 rebounds) converted five of his nine three-pointers, and the side also rode on an all-round show by Vineeth Mathew (17 points, 15 rebounds).

On the defence front, IOB was impeccable, shutting down all threats presented by Army Red.
