Akhil meets Haryana Sports Minister for pro career

Akhil Kumar, who is serving as a DSP in Haryana Police, had earlier met the state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Director General of Police, K.P. Singh as well, to seek permission to return to the ring once again.

"The authorities have been very supportive of this decision and have assured me that the permission would be granted soon enough,” Akhil said.

Boxer Akhil Kumar on Thursday met Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij to seek his assistance in securing permission from his employer, Haryana Police, to turn professional.

The Olympic quarterfinalist, who is serving as a DSP in Haryana Police, had earlier met the state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Director General of Police, K.P. Singh as well, to seek permission to return to the ring once again.

Jitender Kumar, a former Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist who is also a Haryana Police DSP, will also be turning professional alongside Akhil.

“It was a great meeting, Sports minister reassured me that permissions would be granted soon, on the same policy as followed for Vijender Singh (also a DSP). I am looking forward to this new beginning in my boxing career. The authorities have been very supportive of this decision and have assured me that the permission would be granted soon enough,” Akhil said.
