Mary Kom, Sarita Devi in World Boxing tourney squad

The World Women’s Boxing Championship will be held in Delhi from November 15.

Mary Kom will be the biggest name among the 10-member Indian team in the World Women's Boxing Championship.

Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist M.C. Mary Kom will be the biggest name among the 10-member Indian team in the World Women's Boxing Championship to be held in Delhi from November 15 to 24.

According to a Boxing Federation of India (BFI) statement on Friday, Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain, L. Sarita Devi, Baghyabati Kachari and Simranjit Kaur made it to the squad on the basis of their fine performances in Poland (13th International Silesian boxing championships) and Turkey (32nd Ahmet Comert tournament).

Mary had won a gold medal in Poland meet earlier this month. Lovilina and five-time Asian champion and former World Champion Sarita claimed a bronze each.

Simranjit and Bagyabati won gold medals in Turkey. The latter was adjudged the best boxer as well.

The remaining five boxers were picked on the basis of selection trials.

The team: M.C. Mary Kom (48kg), Pinky Jangra (51kg), Manisha (54kg), Sonia (57kg), L. Sarita Devi (60kg), Simranjit Kaur (64kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Saweety Boora (75kg), Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg), Seema Poonia (+81kg).
