WBO champ Sergey Kovalev removed from flight after kissing female passenger, claims report

WBO light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev was removed from a flight after he was accused of grabbing a woman's hand, kissing her and throwing cash at her.

Kovalev was removed from the plane for “improper behavior," though he was rebooked on another flight to Los Angeles. A Broward County Sheriff’s office spokesperson said Kovalev was not arrested and he's not facing charges. 

World Boxing Organization light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev was removed from a flight after he was accused of grabbing a woman's hand, kissing her and throwing cash at her, according to  The Athletic , which cited a report generated by an airport.

The two were sitting next to each other on a flight July 15 going from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport bound for Los Angeles International Airport.

Kovalev's alleged actions resulted in the woman crying as she told the airline staff that she felt “uncomfortable and not safe."

He was removed from the plane for “improper behavior," though he was rebooked on another flight to Los Angeles. 

A Broward County Sheriff’s office spokesperson said Kovalev was not arrested and he's not facing charges. 

Kovalev, however, is facing a felony assault charge for another incident that happened in June 2018. He was arrested and charged after a woman, Jamie Frontz, accused him of punching her in the face after she refused his sexual advances. The suit claims Kovalev started “touching her in unwanted ways" and he said he "loved" her.

The accuser was granted an emergency protective order in mid-June 2018, and Kovalev entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance a few months later in August. His next hearing for this case is scheduled for Thursday.

Kovalev is set to defend his WBO title August 24 against Anthony Yard in Russia.
