Vijender Singh to make U.S. debut on April 12

The Indian boxer will make his bow in the U.S. professional circuit at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Boxer Vijender Singh is currently training under Freddie Roach, a distinguished coach, and gearing up to make his debut in the U.S. professional circuit on April 12, 2019.

Vijender will make his bow at the Staples Center on the undercard of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Anthony Crolla match. It is set to be an eight-round contest and his opponent will be announced later. It will be broadcast live in the U.S.

Vijender, the 33-year-old Indian, is unbeaten in the 10 bouts he has had in his pro career so far. Recently, he relocated his training base to Los Angeles, where he is training at the ‘The Wild Card Boxing Club’ under Roach, according to IOS Boxing Promotions, Vijender’s promoter in India.

Vijender said: “I am thrilled to start my training under such a legendary figure in world boxing. Professional boxing in United States is of the highest level, and I believe Freddie is the right guy to bring the best out of me. I look forward to showing the boxing fans a new and improved Vijender Singh.”

Roach is a 2012 International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) inductee, and is widely considered to be one of the best boxing coaches of all time. He has served as mentor to 36 world champions — including Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Oscar de La Hoya and Amir Khan.

Commenting on Vijender’s potential, Roach said: “I believe Vijender has the talent and the dedication to become a world champion.”

He added: “He has a great amateur background, a style that will give any super middle-weight in the world problems, and power in both hands.”
