Dronavalli Harika was in the joint second position after the seventh round of the World women’s rapid chess championship in Riyadh on Wednesday. With eight rounds remaining, the Hyderabad-based player had 5.5 points, half-a-point behind the sole leader Ju Wenjun of China.
Among the other Indian women, S. Vijayalakshmi had the next best score of 4.5, while Padmini Rout and Eesha Karvade had four points each.
In the men’s event, Viswanathan Anand was on 5.5 points, one point behind the leader Vladimir Fedoseev of Russia. Fellow-Indians P. Harikrishna had five points, B. Adhiban four, Surya Shekhar Ganguly three and S.P. Sethuraman 2.5.
