Grand Chess Tour: Anand in second spot after six rounds

Viswanathan Anand moved into the second position at the end of the sixth round of the Croatia Grand Chess Tour after posting a win and two draws on day two. He showed his class as he scored a significant Anton Korobov of Ukraine in the fifth round. He then drew with Russia’s Alexander Grischuk in the sixth round to take his tally 3.5 points, the same as Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and local lad Ivan Saric.

With three rounds remaining, they are half-a-point behind Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, who is in the sole lead despite losing to Saric in the sixth round.

Earlier in the day, Anand drew with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan in the fourth round.
