A couple of hours before the Special General Meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, some BCCI affiliated members persuaded the office-bearers not to move a resolution to allow Amitabh Choudhary to withdraw India’s participation from the ICC Champions Trophy in June, in the event of decisions going against BCCI’s interests.

A member confided that majority of the members were against this particular resolution that was to be moved at the behest of a former BCCI president from the South. “The general sentiment was that the BCCI and India should not be undermined; India should be prominent in World cricket, but we could not have resorted to the extreme step of withdrawing from the Champions Trophy,’’ said a full member representative.

The SGM also passed a resolution allowing the BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry to accompany Amitabh Choudhary to Dubai, although one or two members opposed it.
