Former India all-rounder Roger Binny remembers Abdul Qadir as the spinner who “loved bowling”. The legendary leg-spinner was also Binny’s first Test wicket in Delhi, 1979.

Qadir passed away in Lahore after a severe cardiac arrest on Friday. He was 63.

Binny, the World Cup winner of 1983, recollected Qadir’s bowling action. “I think he changed the art of leg-spinning from what it used to be in the older days of B.S. Chandrasekhar.

“Chandrasekhar had a unique action but Qadir became more of a flat and quickish leg-spinner,” Binny told  Sportstar  on Saturday.

Qadir became an inspiration to spinners for his helpful nature. Australia spin wizard Shane Warne looked up to the Pakistan spin maestro.

“He was a great character who loved bowling. He had a lot of googlies. Overall, a very good person.

“Most of our memories were on the field. Off the field, when we would meet, he would talk about spin bowling,” he said.
