Andrew Tye ruled out of IPL with dislocated shoulder

The Australian fast bowler suffered the injury while fielding for Gujarat Lions on Saturday.

Gujarat Lions has received a blow with its strike bowler Andrew Tye ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League with a dislocated shoulder. Tye suffered the injury while fielding at the boundary during his team’s home game against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

The fast bowler from Australia came into limelight with his match-winning spell of five for 17 in his first game this season, against Rising Pune Supergiant. He expressed disappointment with his current situation. “Unfortunately this is the end of the tournament for me,” Tye said. “As heartbreaking as it is, I have enjoyed my time here. The people at Gujarat Lions have looked after me well. The fans have been unbelievable. The messages of support and good wishes I have got from everyone have been overwhelming. All I can say is, thanks to the fans and the franchise for giving me this opportunity and hopefully I will be back in the IPL next year,” he stated via a media release.

Tye also explained his injury. “The shoulder popped out of the socket and remained out for a while. They put it back in at the hospital. The extent of the damage is still unknown. I will be flying home in the next couple of days to figure that out. And as for the recovery time, I am not too sure at the moment, but hopefully it’s not too long,” he said.

The 30-year-old has played five Twenty20 Internationals for Australia in a professional cricket career that began in 2013-14. He has featured in 57 Twenty20s overall.
