Azharuddin to attend Jagmohan Dalmiya lecture
India’s 1983 World Cup winner, Kapil Dev, will be delivering the lecture in memory of the late BCCI president at a city hotel in presence of the Indian and Sri Lankan cricketers.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin will be one of the guests at the Jagmohan Dalmiya memorial lecture, to be held for the first time, here on Tuesday.
India’s 1983 World Cup winner, Kapil Dev, will be delivering the lecture in memory of the late BCCI president at a city hotel. Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala will also be one of the speakers.
The event is the brainchild of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which has decided to pay tribute to the gentleman who ran cricket administration for close to three decades. He breathed his last two years ago at the age of 75.
The function is set to be attended by members of both the Indian and Sri Lankan team members, who are scheduled to play a Test at the iconic Eden Gardens from Thursday.
“He has been invited as he was the captain of the Indian team during the Hero Cup, which was the diamond jubilee celebration of the CAB,” Joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya told a few reporters.
“And he had also visited home after Mr. Dalmiya’s demise, to pay his respects,” he added.
India beat the West Indies by 102 runs to lift the Hero Cup under the leadership of Azharuddin in 1993.
Dalmiya served as the president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the president of the BCCI in the early 2000s. He returned as the president of the board in 2015 after N. Srinivasan was asked to step aside.
