India's hopes of hosting two high-profile World competitions in 2021 and 2023 have been in limbo ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) found itself at loggerheads with the International Cricket Council (ICC)  over tax exemptions from the Central Government.

But on Monday, in a meeting with  ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, the BCCI officials, including CEO Rahul Johri and General Manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim, informed Manohar that the Board will take up the tax-waiver process with the new government after the general elections.

“We are confident that the government will support us and we have proposed a full and final settlement in terms of tax-waiver after the 2023 World Cup,” the official said.

Sreesanth case to be referred to Ombudsman

The CoA will refer S. Sreesanth's case to the new ombudsman, Justice (retd.) DK Jain. A couple of days ago, the Supreme Court had set aside the life ban imposed on him by the BCCI for his alleged role in the 2013 IPL corruption and spot-fixing scandal.

The apex court had asked the board to reconsider and ‘revisit’ the length of any fresh ban, preferably within three months. “We will refer the matter to the Ombudsman. He will take a call on the matter,” one of the Board officials said.

When contacted, Justice (retd) Jain said: “I have not heard anything from the Board yet. As and when the case is referred to me, I will look into the matter.”
