Chandika Hathurusingha appointed Sri Lanka head coach

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday confirmed Hathurusingha will take over as the head coach from December 20. This eventually means he will travel to India for his team’s ongoing tour.

A former Lankan cricketer, Chandika Hathurusingha was previously working as the chief coach of Bangladesh.

Former Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha has been appointed as the head coach of Sri Lanka national team.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday confirmed that it had taken the final decision to appoint Hathurusingha as the head coach, with effect from December 20. This eventually means Hathurusingha will travel to India for his team’s ongoing tour.

“Subsequent to successful discussions, and upon the unanimous approval of the Executive Committee on December 6, 2017, Chandika Hathurusinghe will be appointed as the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka National Team, and will assume duties from December 20, 2017,” a statement issued by SLC stated.

“Hathurusinghe, who is largely considered one of the best coaches in the world, re-joins Sri Lanka Cricket after previous stints as Head Coach of the Sri Lanka 'A' team (2006-2009) and Shadow Coach of the National Team (2009-2010).”

A former Lankan cricketer, Hathurusingha was previously working as the chief coach of Bangladesh. After a series of good show, the coach quit last month, following the team’s debacle in the tour of South Africa.
