Dhawan becomes first Indian batsman to hit ton before lunch

India opener Shikhar Dhawan joins the likes of David Warner and yesteryear greats such as Don Bradman and Charles Macartney by reaching the three-figure mark in the first session on day one.

Dhawan reached the three-figure mark — his seventh in red ball cricket — off only 87 balls.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan created history in the iconic Test against Afghanistan, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, as he became the first Indian batsman to score a hundred before lunch on day one.

At lunch, India raced to 158 for no wicket in only 27 overs. Dhawan did the maximum damage with his 91-ball 104. The innings comprised 19 fours and three sixes.

Dhawan reached the three-figure mark — his seventh in red ball cricket — off only 87 balls. The innings had flashes of his debut ton, that came off 85 balls, against Australia five years ago.
