Kanwajit Singh feels Nagaland is a talented outfit that needs direction.

Former Hyderabad cricketer Kanwaljit Singh will coach the Nagaland team for the forthcoming domestic cricket season – the first that the north-eastern state will be participating.

Singh, an effective right-arm off-spin bowler with 20 years experience on the domestic circuit, is familiar with some of the Nagaland cricketers.

“He was our under-23 coach last year. He knows our players. It is essential for a coach to understand the north-east culture and the boys. He will suit the role,” A. Rahman, joint secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association, told Sportstar on Thursday.

Singh feels Nagaland is a talented outfit that needs direction. “They perhaps don’t know how good they are. I have been with them in the past, and I will try to advise them better. I am looking forward to get the best out of them,” he said.

“It is an exciting assignment for me as they are the babies of first-class cricket. To nurture them is a great responsibility and I am going to enjoy the role,” said Singh, a veteran of 111 first-class games between the 1980s and early 2000.
