"Dinesh Karthik asked me to play my shots,” said M. Ashwin after the match.

Murugan Ashwin said senior cricketer Dinesh Karthik encouraged him to play his natural game during their match-winning partnership at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

“It really made a difference to me. We were under pressure. He asked me to play my shots,” said Ashwin after the match.

Asked about reprieves by the Karnataka fielders that enabled him take Tamil Nadu home, Ashwin said, “On a day when things go your way, you got to make the most of it.”

Ashwin said he was bowling well. “I am working on my bowling all the time. I want to be good for all the formats,” he said.

Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar said, “Our fielding cost us the match. We needed to take our catches.”

He said a total of 144 was decent for the surface. “It could have been defended. There was something in it for the bowlers. Our spinners bowled well but…”

The Karnataka captain said all-rounder Stuart Binny, recovering from a groin strain, might be fit for the side’s third match.
